Haaksbergen has enjoyed official partnership status with the neighbouring German community of Stad Ahaus since 1988. A working party from both towns concentrates on mutual contacts, expressed in a diversity of activities.

Ahaus

Ahaus has 36,000 inhabitants and offers employment to 14,000 people. Its administrative area includes the parishes of Wessum, Wülen, Ottenstein, Graes and - immediately proximate to Haaksbergen - Alstätte.
